Another Lesson Learned

The lesson I learned today is to always know how much money in coupons should come off the bill.

I was at Ralphs today and realized first while in line that my free milk did not come off the total.  I saw the checker scan it but it did not come off.  I realized a couple other things after coming home.  Unfortunately, I had no way of proving it so I did not feel it right going back after the fact and requesting my money.  I was supposed to receive a catalina for $4.00 off another purchase ( catalinas are those coupons that print along with the receipt).

Secondly, one of my coupons did not come off the bill.  The only reason I noticed that particular coupon  was because it was a strange amount.  From now on I will total what I should be saving in coupons and double check my receipt before leaving.  My mistake cost me at least $4.70 if not more.  That is not a lot when you take that by itself.  However if that happened every time I went to the store, that would add up in a hurry.

The whole situation was a little bit of a bummer because there is a certain checker that I do not care for.  She is constantly flirty  and chatty with the other employees around while I stand there (a pet peeve of mine).  I purposely went to another line and just as it was my turn she switch over to my line.  All of the groceries were already on the belt, making it impossible to switch lines.    After she made the switch, I really should have checked my receipt.

Remember check those receipts.

Happy Saving.

  1. I have that happen at Target ALOT (and today). Didn't get a $5 GC and they wouldn't take some of my manufacturer coupons because it said Ralph's on it. I pointed out it wasn't a RALPH's coupon, it was a MANUFACTURER coupon. The fact is that you are right: check your receipts. In my coupon journey, sometimes I win and sometimes I "lose" (like today) but I still know I am saving much more than I was not couponing, so I still count myself ahead.

  2. I rarely do "deals" at Target because of that. My oatmeal deal from the other day almost didn't go through because it was one very specific flavor. The cashier tried to tell me that it wasn't part of the gift card deal. It all worked out fine in the end but was a bit of a hassle.

  3. I can completely relate to not having the coupons discounted correctly....so this is what I do to ensure maximum savings. 1) On my grocery list I mark those items that I have a coupon for and the amount of the coupon 2) When giving my coupons to the cashier I stack them in order from highest value to lowest value coupon with all free coupons on the top (I also put all my free items on the belt at the back of my order) 3) I then tell the cashier exactly how many coupons I am handing her and I make sure that I set my grocery list next to the coupons on the counter....this way she knows I mean business. I was a cashier at Ralphs for 5 years and had a customer who always did this with her coupons....it made me be more conscious of what I was doing because I liked her and didn't want to "cheat" her and I also dislike confrontation and didn't like being called out on stuff like that. Kim, I bet I know exactly which cashier you are referring to...I avoid her like the plague!!!

  4. After our talk at Mops today, maybe we should start purposely going to her line! I could all but guarantee she is hurting.

Thanks for the tips when handing over coupons. I will definitely do that next time I have coupons.
